We handle the stories people share with great care. Here's how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information you give us.
When you create or contribute to a Memory Binding book, we collect:
- Account information — name, email address, and password for book organizers.
- Contributor content — written memories, stories, photographs, and signature details you submit.
- Order information — shipping address, payment details (processed securely through Stripe; we do not store card numbers), and order history.
- Invitation data — email addresses of people you invite to contribute.
Contributors do not need to create an account. We collect only the content and signature details necessary to produce your book.
We use your information to make your book.
Your information is used to:
- Produce, print, and ship your book.
- Send contributor invitations and deadline reminders on your behalf.
- Provide customer support and respond to inquiries.
- Send order and shipping confirmations.
We do not sell your information to third parties. We do not use contributor stories or photographs for advertising or marketing without explicit permission.
Your content belongs to you.
The stories and photographs you and your contributors submit are yours. We use them solely to produce your book. We do not share, license, or publish contributor content outside of your book without express written permission from the book organizer.
We retain content for 12 months after your book ships, to allow for reorders. After that period, content is permanently deleted from our servers.
Limited, necessary sharing only.
We share information with third parties only as needed to complete your order:
- Stripe — payment processing. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store card numbers.
- Lulu Press, Inc. — our print and fulfillment partner. To print and ship your book we send Lulu your book files together with the recipient's name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, phone number, and email address.
- Supabase — database and file hosting. Your account details, memories, and photographs are stored here.
- Cloudflare — website hosting and delivery.
- Shipping carriers (UPS, USPS) — delivery address for fulfillment.
- Email service providers — for sending transactional and invitation emails.
All third-party partners are contractually required to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
Access, correction, and deletion.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time. To exercise these rights, email us at hello@memorybinding.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are located in the European Union or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively. Please contact us for more information.
We protect what you share.
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Contributor pages use unique, unguessable URLs rather than passwords. We conduct regular security reviews and use industry-standard practices for data storage and access control.
Minimal use.
We use session cookies to keep you logged in and remember your draft progress. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. We use privacy-respecting analytics (Plausible) that do not collect personal information.
Memory Binding is not for children under 13.
Memory Binding is intended for adults. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or submit a memory, and you must be 18 or older to place an order or enter payment details.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not ask contributors for their age beyond confirming they meet this minimum, and we do not direct any part of this service to children.
If a younger child's words belong in a book — a grandchild, a younger sibling, a student — the book's organizer can add that memory on the child's behalf from their own account, with the child's parent or guardian's permission. The child does not create an account and we collect nothing from them directly beyond the words and name the organizer chooses to include.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email hello@memorybinding.com and we will delete it promptly.
Your book stays until you tell us otherwise.
We keep your account, books, memories, and photographs for as long as your account is open, so you can return to a finished book years later. Memory Binding is meant to be a keepsake, and we do not delete your content on a schedule.
- Books and memories — kept until you delete the book or close your account.
- Order and payment records — kept for seven years after an order, as tax and accounting rules require. These records contain order details, not card numbers.
- Deleted content — removed from our live systems immediately and from backups within 30 days.
You can ask us to delete your account and everything in it at any time by emailing hello@memorybinding.com.
